Boundaries of Intimacy

Question:

What are some of the things we should limit from the other party in each of the following boundaries? Why?

Couple’s boundary (within and between)

  • Avoid anything that can irritate your partner. Know what irritates them and then stay as far away from it as possible.
  • Privacy – it may be important to keep some information from your partner. For instance, some sensitive work information.
  • Reaction to our support to other people in the world. For instance, when the husband gives some money to support a person in need and then the wife complains that the money should have been used to buy some items in the house – even though those items may not have been as urgent as the need in question. The man may prefer to withhold such information. However, brethren agreed that it is good to ensure the house has the basic items needed and that the couple should also discuss the needy cases before helping.
  • The TV programs we watch. We may have different likes and dislikes.

Additions…

  • We are one, yes, but we have some simple differences. However, we should strive to live in harmony.
  • Let us strive to minimize the boundaries.
  • We are social beings. We take part in social activities including helping other people in need and we also seek help sometimes.
